This piece of music is the fifth in a collection of audio pieces created as part of the “Global Village” project during the 1999 Festival of Arts and Culture in Lisburn, Northern Ireland. The festival was held to celebrate the growing intimacy between different cultures and the project used music from different continents as a starting point for composition, involving pupils from four schools in the area.
Working with composer, Robert Jarvis, and choreographers Richard Knight and Nicola Curry, the students were encouraged to develop an awareness of the different characteristics in the music and to use this in creating their own original music and dance pieces.
Diverse styles from locations such as Columbia, India and Africa were fused with influences closer to home to produce a performance involving young dancers from the area alongside professional musicians.
